THE LEONARDO DA VINCI ARCHIPELAGO

The name of ›Leonardo da Vinci Archipelago‹ refers to the world of Leonardo da Vinci scholarship and reception. One might imagine this world as an archipelago, because we face the main islands (Leonardo as a painter/draftsman; Leonardo as an engineer; Leonardo as a scientist/researcher); but there are also many, many smaller, if not to say: tiny islands. Offside the main islands, but often as interesting as the, well, mainstream line of research.
Our platform called The Leonardo da Vinci Archipelago is dedicated to the world of Leonardo da Vinci scholarship and reception. It owes something to the style of the sumptuous Carlo Pedretti directed Achademia Leonardi Vinci project of the 1990s, but our project is a virtual one and it is for free.
Our base camp, one might say, is the Virtual Leonardo da Vinci Research Institute, which I imagine to build on the so-called Propeller Island.
The Propeller Island, first series (as one might say), was an invention of French novelist Jules Verne (and works of old masters, including, as it seems, works also by Leonardo, went down to the bottom of the ocean with that first Propeller Island), but our artificial island is of a new type, and its museums are safe.
And the island not only does house the Virtual Research Institute, but there is also plenty of space for Leonardo exhibitions (and it feels good to be a curator of a Leonardo da Vinci exhibition…).
THE PROPELLER ISLAND in general, thus, is dedicated to the more essayistic writing, to the more playful presentation, while the research institute THE VIRTUAL LEONARDO DA VINCI RESEARCH INSTITUTE, as its name says, is dedicated to the serious research.
Last but not least there is the ARCHIVE, which sums up, in a more overseeable way, all the scattered miscellenea works, essays and documentations, that are already available for free on this website, and most of which have been published within the Online Journal Microstory of Art.
