Dedicated to the Radio

(Picture: Tom Meyer)

Ode to the Radio

(14.9.2023)

Ode to the Radio

Dear Radio, how often
Did you save me! So often that
For a whole sweet (and bitter) decade once
I virtually never turned you off.

There have been times in which
I loved to hear you chatter
Even in French
Post-Midnight
Intellectual jargon.

There have been times in which
I joint the parliamentary debate
The Pop Shop (more often), the Sportreport (how often)
The Diskothek im Zwei
Or Sounds (with Front 242).

How often, and how grateful I am honestly –
You did spare me gruesome images.
But in 1982 –
You did produce the images
To the legendary Semi Final
And the sounds.

O Radio, how sweet a chatterbox you are
How versed, in all kind of sounds, how intellectual (at times)
How thoughtful, informed (or at least suggesting to be so).

O Radio, more that once it was, that you provided me
The sweet escape, the sweetest escape, and how reliably,
So that I must tell you that you, yes you,
Have been my sweetest and my most realiable escape of all.
