Dedicated to I Do Not Seek, I Find

(Picture: Elke Brüser)

I Do Not Seek, I Find

(1.-3..11.2023)

A Sudden Appetite

Amidst the woods
A sudden appetite for
Mango
And there are some pieces
In my bag, but
For the moment just:
Astonishment.

Two cranes are circling as a pair
Occasionally arguing, but
Settling then, as it appears, on a
Particular tree;

Some distant noises, probably the
Airport, or perhaps, rather remote, –
The sound’s metallic –
An industrial site.

Some people, here and there becoming visible
As they seem to step out from thicker woods into the light
To read a screen, snow down to 1000
Meters perhaps, or other messages.

Amidst the woods, upon a bench I’ve just seen sitting:
A grandmother, perhaps, a grandmother
Talking or telling stories to a grandchild listening
And also responding to that story.

Finding, not seeking, as Picasso
Is said to have said, by which
He might have meant:
Just keep on living, go to work
With what the days just have been offering to you;
Don’t search the days for
Something
To work with, no.

But there might be other ways to say
What I’ve just said, some other, better
Ways and
Searching, finding –
Finding, searching, what
If it is just about turning things round?
Grandmother, crane, child,
Appetite for mango messages, or
Mango child, snow, down to one
Crane airport story, grandmother’s
Just been telling you.
Perhaps this is not what
Picasso meant nor said, but rather
What Picasso did, not said (nor meant).
But he might also have meant what
He’s just said to have said, and in the end
It’s all about the appetite – don’t we agree? –
For things, for words, the day, for order,
For turning things round, for
Changing the order, brief: for just
Another order for the day (beyond
the day?).

Amidst the woods a sudden
Appetite for mango.
